Magdalen is originally from Nairobi, Kenya. Her Kenyan name is Karugi Karanja. Karugi means “Little Cook” (she loves to cook and is very good). Karanja is her father’s family name. Magdalen has always been very passionate about skincare. While growing up in Kenya, with an abundance of tropical fruits and vegetables, Magdalen made her creams and masques for mini-facials. When Magdalen arrived in the United States and realized that schools provided formal skin care therapists training, she enrolled at Yvonne De Vilar Scientific Skin Care in Vienna, Virginia. She graduated in 2004, obtained her Esthetics license, and immediately went to work for a spa in Arlington, Virginia. Three years later, she began working for another upscale spa in Bethesda, Maryland. However, Magdalen always dreamed of having her spa share the benefits and results of proper skin care treatment with her clients. In 2008, she was able to open her mini-spa by leasing space in a dental office. Magdalen soon realized that she needed more space for her clients and wanted to offer additional services. In 2008, she opened her present location at 966 Hungerford Drive in Rockville, Maryland. Today Magdalen owns and operates Magdalen’s Pure skin care, offering services in waxing and skin care which includes Brazilian wax, body waxing, HydraFacials, and Chemical peels

The first couple of minutes were used to assess my skin and decide what would be appropriate to do. From my initial phone call with Ms.Magdalen to the end of my service she had me laughing. She has a... kindhearted, fun spirit and great personality all around. Very direct with her expectations (be punctual) and will answer your questions. She is the only one in her shop and uses paper strip vs hard wax. I questioned the paper strips but my results were amazing and so smooth. I received a full Brazilian and underarm wax, its been a week since my service and no hair growth or skin issues from her products. Also, the pain was minimal and tolerable, I was on my cycle so you will be more sensitive. The positions are different from my normal but her reasoning was true. I been getting waxed for about 8-9yrs and she was a 10/10! Highly recommend Ms.Magdalen to anyone who is in the Rockville, MD area!read more
